«How does food production actually work, and how much of it could an ordinary person learn to do?»

A bag of chia seeds, beans, or sunflower seeds hides almost everything required to produce it. DIY Agriculture documents that entire chain — from land and seed to a usable product — for crops that can realistically be grown on a small plot.

How research is conducted, evidence is rated, and uncertainty is preserved. [Read it →](/methodology/) Chia, amaranth, sesame, sunflower, dry beans, and the expansion crop moringa — each documented topic by topic. [Start with chia](/crops/chia/) Irrigation, soil, threshing, drying, storage — the parts of agriculture shared across crops. [Browse systems](/systems/irrigation/) Raw source material lives in research/ and structured crop data in data/, both in the GitHub repository.

Active research draft. Chia, amaranth, dry beans, moringa, and sesame now have topic-by-topic draft dossiers; sunflower remains an outline. Sesame is a metadata draft with human screening pending. Unsupported values stay Unknown by design — this is not agricultural advice.
